How we match legal entity records
Some owner pages on TrademarkChecker.ai show a Legal entity section. It comes from the Global Legal Entity Identifier System, a public register run by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), where companies that hold a Legal Entity Identifier are recorded with their legal name, status, addresses, legal form and, where disclosed, their corporate parents.
What we show and where it comes from
Every value in the section is copied from the GLEIF record as published. We add nothing and edit nothing, and we show both the date GLEIF last updated the record and the date we retrieved it. GLEIF publishes this data under a CC0 public domain dedication. GLEIF does not endorse, verify or supply this website.
How a match is made
An owner name from the USPTO record is matched to a GLEIF record only when all of the following are true.
- The legal name matches exactly after normalizing punctuation, spacing and case. Similar names are never accepted, and if more than one record matches, none is shown.
- The address corroborates the match. The state on the USPTO owner address must agree with the state on the GLEIF registered or headquarters address. When only the country agrees, the record is shown only if GLEIF marks it as fully corroborated.
- The entity is active and its LEI registration is current. Lapsed, retired and pending records are never shown.
If any check fails, the section does not appear. An owner page without a Legal entity section says nothing about that owner. Most individuals and many small companies simply do not hold an LEI.
Corporate family
Parent companies come from the relationship data the entity itself reported to GLEIF. Where a parent is not disclosed, nothing is shown, and the absence of a parent on this site never means a company has no parent. A name links to another page here only when that company is also an owner on record on this site.
Keeping it current
Matched records are refreshed periodically and unmatched owners are re-checked over time. If you believe a record is shown in error, write to [email protected].
